Nigeria’s street-pop scene is buzzing with new energy, and one of the fresh voices set to shake things up is Hotboy Exclusive. Born in Benin City, sharpened in South Africa, and now based in Lagos, he’s blending Afrobeats flair with raw, street-level energy.
Launching under his own label, Hotboy Inc., Hotboy Exclusive is stepping out bold—debut single, visuals on the way, and future collaborations with some of Nigeria’s biggest names.
In this conversation with Amplify Ghana, he talks about discovering his gift at age 7, the creative process behind his first track, why impact matters more than fame, and how he plans to build his label into a powerhouse.
Tell us about the moment you realized you had talent for music and your first-ever recording session.
I realized I had talent when I was 7, because I would always listen to beats and freestyle over them. My first-ever recording session happened in South Africa.
After that, what informed your decision to pursue music professionally?
The decision to pursue music professionally was fueled by the joy and fulfillment I found in creating and sharing my music. Connecting with listeners and receiving their positive feedback further solidified my path. I am “Exclusive,” and that simply means the best. As a record label boss, Forex trader, and artist, I believe I should always give my fans the best.
How has living in South Africa impacted your music-making process?
When I was in South Africa, I noticed how much people, especially the ladies, enjoyed Afrobeats, and that pushed me to work on something extremely creative.
What went into the making of your debut song—the creative process, the title, and why that title?
For my debut song, the creative process was all about self-reflection and trying new things. The title was inspired by a personal experience that perfectly matched the message of the song.
What should listeners expect on your debut song?
My debut single offers a mix of genuine emotion, relatable stories, and a sound that’s uniquely mine. It’s designed not just to be heard, but to be deeply felt.
Would you release any visuals for your first official song?
Yes, visuals are definitely in the works! I believe they’ll add another layer to the story and help listeners connect with the song on a deeper level.
What’s next after this song?
I’m excited to share more music soon, and my next release will feature a well-known artist.
Are we likely to see any collaborations on your future projects, and which artistes would you like to jump on a record with?
Yes, there will be collaborations with TML, Seyi Vibez, Wizkid, and Davido.
What’s more important to you—fame or impact?
For me, impact is more important than fame.
Do you plan on signing other artistes onto your record label, Hotboy Inc.?
And yes, I definitely plan to sign more artists to my label, Hotboy Inc.
