PRJCT Kumasi’s HOMESICK EP brings together the lyrical talent of independent and unsigned artists from Kumasi, including Malai, Akoto, Amos K, Genius KD, Chocoboylive, BLCK Stream, Suarim, Oldboy Charles, JSSmoke, Spoonz, and Abonten Baby, all riding on production by Dab Beatz.
The EP began as a live cypher sparked by HOMESICK, an annual concert series curated by PRJCT Kumasi, with the next edition scheduled for January 30, 2026.
Dab Beatz’s fresh production features a repeating, melancholic refrain layered over a trap-inspired beat, with Malai’s hook serving as a catchy and memorable interlude between verses. Interestingly, the hook was written live at the very first Homesick Concert. Malai grabbed the mic at the event and created the melody and lyrics on the spot.
What stands out about the project is how it showcases the best of Kumasi’s lyrical talent, giving each artist a moment to shine with a verse. BLCK Stream, founder of PRJCT Kumasi, captures the essence of the project with his message of “collaborate, don’t compete,” delivering a bouncy flow that playfully switches between Twi and English.
Chocoboylive delivers a standout verse with a fresh style and melodic approach, while Akoto, the only female MC on the project, commands attention with confidence and flair. Suarim’s verse is assured and expressive, emphasizing his aspirations as an emerging rapper from Kumasi. Amos K reflects on his passion for music, the support he receives from his community, and his appreciation for PRJCT Kumasi as a platform. Yaw Palmer takes control of his verse with a melodic rhythm, and despite being an Afro artist, he delivers effectively on the hip hop instrumental.
Overall, HOMESICK is a must listen project and a clear call to action advocating collaboration and sustainability within the creative landscape of Kumasi and the wider Ashanti Region. It is an essential introduction to a group of young, promising talents worth paying attention to.
